Wilson Peak sunrise as the mountain proudly rises on a winter morning and greets the first light. Fully covered with snow it brightly glows as the sunshine is reflected off of the steep white cliff walls. At its feet are acres and acres of evergreen Colorado forests. The next layer below that is populated with dense aspen forests, stretching far and wide. Finally the foreground is covered with fields of snow , interrupted by a colorful band of low bushes.
Wilson Peak is the iconic mountain of the Telluride area and when illuminated by a powerful sunrise it comes to life. Its pointy and symmetrical peak is so magnificent and tall, that it cannot be missed. Not only it causes the fine art landscape photographer to marvel, but it also makes the regular person, driving by, to pull over and take a good look.
I drove into the area while it was still dark, so that I could position myself in good view of Wilson peak, before sunrise. The mesa is quite large and the views are numerous. At some point I became worried that I would not pick the right spot on time. Only then did I notice this open field and decided to go for it. The morning was crisp, but absolutely still. There was not another soul in sight. And then I had the pleasure of waiting for the sun and photographing this stunning panoramic landscape.
