Rich Fall Colors | Crested Butte, Colorado
Rich fall colors envelop the entire scene as the striking October sunset illuminates this spectacular mountain landscape. To date I have not made a more bold statement of the autumn season with my fine art nature photography. This panoramic picture captures the epitome of the perfect autumn mountain landscape.
An entire wall of aspen trees with rich fall colors are featured in the foreground. They surround an open meadow which opens the view and makes it possible to see the beautiful mountains. Although the aspens are in the shade, their leaves catch the gentle light of the sunset reflected in the skies above. They set the mood of an abundant, warm, and welcoming mountain atmosphere.
Gaze into the distance and observe the eruption of rich fall colors in the foothills. As a landscape nature photographer I do not remember ever seeing such a variety of tree leaves colors before. Vivid bright yellows are everywhere, which is not surprising. However, notice the lush green patch of aspens on the left. They appear as if it is still summer. What seems only 200-300 yards below is another grove with dark oranges and reds. Then we see every color in between.
Observe the rich colors of the mountains, enhanced by the glow of the fall sunset. Maroon, beige, and brown paint these slopes with the occasional presence of dark evergreens. Finally contemplate the silky clouds, which stretch across the skies to seize the warm light of the sun and add the final touch to this beauty.
The rich fall colors were not the only thing that made my experience so powerful that evening. That day I drove 4.5 hours from Denver. As soon as I parked the car at the trailhead I was greeted by a curious little fox. She kept coming within 3 feet of me, but was shy enough to not close the gap. In addition, a deer herd joined me when I arrived at the shooting location. Cautious at first, they slowly came closer and graced me with their quiet presence, while I was capturing the beauty of a mesmerizing view. They kept me company, just left of the photo frame. What a memorable evening!
