Mount Sneffels Storm | Ridgway, Colorado
More often than not, some of my most interesting or dramatic images are taken through a very frantic and adrenaline-filled experience. The storm over Mount Sneffels caused one such experience on an October afternoon. I sometimes plan my approach, but other times have to be ready and act on a momentโs notice. This landscape photo is a classic example of capturing beautiful scenery when it was absolutely unplanned.
I was slowly driving by this meadow, scouting for a Mount Sneffels view to be captured after the storm passed through. It was cloudy and gloomy when, absolutely unexpectedly, the sunlight broke through and lit the entire field on my side. It was a very rare moment and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. Immediately I knew that it was a unique opportunity. I pulled over and began setting up my tripod and camera. I rushed as fast as I could, knowing that I probably had only seconds to capture the unfolding drama. My heart was racing.
My original intent was to take a panoramic shot. However, panoramic photography is done when the tripod head is perfectly level, so that one can take multiple overlapping images. In order to achieve that level tripod position it takes some setup effort, which is especially challenging on uneven or sloped surfaces. Needless to say, I was in a ditch and achieving horizontal level quickly was nearly impossible. After trying a few times, I decided to take a single shot and walk away with an image. This was better than continuing the tripod struggle and ultimately risking losing the opportunity altogether. As a nature photographer I have made many wrong calls. However, I made the right call that day, because the light disappeared very soon and the Sneffels storm darkened the view again. I am so thankful for the chance to have captured this dynamic mountain artwork. It represents a very short, yet stunning scene in nature.
Look in the distant sky and notice the storm clouds and falling rain above the Sneffels Wilderness. It was headed straight into my direction. Roughly 5 minutes after I pressed the shutter, the storm poured very heavily right where I had stood with my camera and tripod. Gladly, I was in my car by then. I just sat there for a few minutes, processing in my mind this stressful but rewarding experience. I couldnโt help but check the image I had captured and knew right away that it would be added to my portfolio.
This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLifeยฎ acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.
Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLifeยฎ acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.
Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.
Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
Large format print sizes with great quality are available for your interior. As a landscape nature photographer, I pride myself on being able to produce huge prints with sharpness and detail. Although printsย ย are available in custom sizes, my typical dimensions are: PANORAMIC – 20ร60, 30×90, 40ร120 and STANDARD – 30ร45, 40×60, 48ร72. There you will also find visualization tools to help you see how different size large format prints fit inside a home decor.
