Fall Season | Snowmass, Colorado
Visiting Snowmass during the fall season is magical. The area is beautiful, yet not heavily visited. The nature around Snowmass is very spectacular and usually quiet and peaceful. The hills are carpeted with both aspen and evergreen trees. Fourteeners are towering just around the corner and if a person is willing to venture just a little, he/she will find endless options.
At an elevation of 6,847 ft (2,087 m) early snow is not uncommon in Snowmass. Even while the fall season is in full swing, snow showers can take place. Such was the case on this October day when I had the privilege to hike with my camera. I believe that one of the most unique autumn encounters in Colorado is the ability to see golden color aspens and fresh snow all in the same view.
On the day I took this image I had gotten an early start by going out while it was still dark. My goal was to hike around and have enough time to select my location/s before the snow disappeared. Snow during the fall season in Snowmass does not last very long. Most of it starts disappearing by mid morning, especially if the sun breaks through. I need to be out and shooting early in the day if I don’t want to miss the moment. Once the sun shows up, the fresh snow can quickly fall off the trees. Once that happens the view loses its magic.
Luckily I was on time and managed to capture the beautiful fall season colors and the white snow surrounding Snowmass. I am always very grateful for moments like these. Scenes of splendor unfold before me, and most times no one else is there to see the splendor I witness. Experiences like these make landscape photography so special for me. Being out there and having the privilege to capture beauty with my camera always feels like a cherished encounter with nature.
