Colorful Aspen | San Juan Mountains, Colorado
The colorful aspen trees captivate me every time I am out in nature and to see them. I captured this image in a place of the San Juan Mountains that was new to me. Nevertheless, the fall colors were amazing and exploding everywhere. Acres and acres of impressive autumn hues, intermixed with evergreen trees, covered the landscape and commanded attention.
That morning I had not set my mind on any particular shot of colorful aspen trees. I went out curious to explore and see what awaited. The morning was fresh and calm and I was fully enjoying the beautiful Colorado scenery. Casually I passed by a grove of particularly vibrant aspen trees, which had struck me the day before. Although the light was now completely different from the previous afternoon, the leaves still beamed with colorful glow. It was a very special sight and I had to figure out a way to capture it and create a fine art landscape panorama.
The main challenge of photographing these lovely colorful aspen trees was the shape of the terrain. Where I needed to position the camera was a steep and slippery slope. It was tricky to move around and compose the image. Furthermore, leveling a tripod on angled ground is always hard and takes effort and patience.
Regardless, my persistence paid off as I was finally able to compose the colorful aspen forest to my linking, and then proceeded to photograph it. What a magical place and moment. As a landscape photographer these experiences never get old for me. Every opportunity I am given to immerse myself in the wonder of autumn is something I do not take lightly and deeply appreciate.
