Wilson Peak in Colorado stands tall above beautiful aspen forests of the Wilson Mesa. One can spend hours exploring this grand landscape and marvel at its natural beauty. Wilson Peak rises unapologetically to 14,017 feet and establishes its presence rather noticeably in the delightful Colorado scenery. For me personally, the combination of a massive mountain with acres of striking golden aspen trees is jaw-dropping.
On a wonderful afternoon I was scouting the Wilson Peak area for opportunities. My goal was to find these special views of Wilson Peak and the Fall colors, which are Colorado classics. There were so many different angles and so many options! I wanted to seize all of them. Of course, landscape photographers care about the light, as well as the view. I am no different in that regard. Therefore, I needed that special lighting to make the scenic terrain really impressive.
Arriving upon a lovely patch of golden Colorado aspen trees, I saw Wilson Peak positioned dead-center behind them. It looked intriguing but there was a significant cloud cover, casting a shadow all over the countryside. At this point I was not sure I wanted to capture this view. Nevertheless, I kept setting up my camera. My desire was to see this potential image in my viewfinder. A few minutes later everything was ready for me to take a look, and the camera was on.
Just as I was surveying through my camera viewfinder, out of nowhere, a spotlight illuminated a golden hill of aspen trees. What an amazing moment that was! Everything came together in a moment, right after I had just set up my camera. All I had to do was press the shutter. So I did. More than once. The spotlight lasted for about one minute. And then it was gone just like that. Having Wilson Peak in the back made this Colorado artwork all the more scenic and inspiring.
