Mt Bellview | Elk Mountains, Colorado
Mt Bellview rises above a beautiful valley on a delightful summer morning. It displays the beauty of the Elk Mountains which is one of the most beautiful areas in Colorado. Lush greens carpet the scenery, exhibiting the abundance and splendor of this gorgeous terrain. Spectacular clouds cover the sky and glow with the first light of the sunrise.
Located near Crested Butte, Mt Bellview is prominently featured, center stage in this panoramic fine art. It is part of the Maroon Bells Wilderness and rises to 12,519 feet (3816 meters). Schofield Pass and Emerald Lake are situated just west of the mountain. Also, featured in this fine art photo is the East River, which flows from Emerald Lake and ultimately merges with the Taylor River.
Although not a famous mountain, Mt Bellview is very pretty and photogenic. While not very jagged, its rocks have a pleasant beige and reddish color. In the warm months it is covered with rich vegetation almost right until below its summit. This is characteristic of the Elk Mountains and creates a feeling of pristine and untouched wilderness. Down at its lower slopes one can see a mix of evergreen and aspen forests, magically arraying the hills.
I had tried photographing Mt Bellview before taking this image. However, I had not had good luck with the light. On an early July morning, I hesitated whether to try it again or make a run for another location. Unlike most mornings in the Crested Butte area, the sky had a good amount of clouds and I was hopeful that the sunrise would be good. I knew the exact location and headed straight to it, while it was still dark. My goal was a panorama with Mt Bellview in the background and the East River in the foreground. Needless to say, I did not regret that choice.
