Mt Hood at sunrise and its reflection in a calm mountain lake surrounded by evergreen trees, Oregon

Mt Hood, Oregon
Spending a morning watching the Mount Hood sunrise was an incredible experience. It began with pink and red saturated colors and as the sun started lifting the light slowly changed its hue towards orange and then yellow. Clouds moved in but they still allowed the warm glow to flood the beautiful mountain landscape. Shadows and light transformed an already beautiful scenery into a stunning vista.

The view of this Mt Hood sunrise was further adorned by the calm waters of Trillium Lake which reflected the land like a mirror. The lake is a small, hidden pearl nestled in the lush Oregon forest providing a picture perfect opportunity for the nature photographer. Ducks were busy looking for food or just swimming in pairs. In fact two ducks are captured in this image, right below the base of Mt Hood. Notice the two white lines, which are the gentle waves created by the ducks.

I woke up at 4am to drive an hour in order to photograph the Mt Hood sunrise. In my opinion nature is most impressive at sunrise and at sunset. The light can be really intense and whenever other objects reflect it, such as clouds and lakes, the combination can become quite impressive. As a photographic artist, it is those moments I seek and cherish. It feels great to witness them, make a personal connection with the place, and walk away with an amazing fine art image.

However, there is always pressure when shooting a sunrise and the one at Mt Hood was no exception. What do I mean? It is simply this. I arrive at a location while it is still dark. At dawn the first twilight appears above the horizon. And that is the point when the beginning of the day is in motion. Soon the colors will be changing, followed by the appearance of the sun. After that it is but a short time before the light begins losing intensity and the moment is gone. Therefore, the window of opportunity is rather short. The capture of Mt Hood here is at the tail end of that sunrise window.

FINE ART PRINTS FOR SALE

Print Mediums

Acrylic - TruLife® LumaChrome Prints - ready to hang

This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLife® acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.

Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLife® acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.

Metal - ChromaLuxe Prints - ready to hang

Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.

Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
