I enjoy capturing landscapes that draw me in, and places that just make me want to be there. This mountain ranch near Ridgway, Colorado was no exception. The splendor of the open valley, backed by the beautiful snow capped mountains creates a very enticing combination for me personally. In order for me to produce a fine art print which moves the viewer, I have to be moved myself at the time of capturing the scene.
On this autumn morning it was quiet and peaceful. I got there with plenty of time to set up and wait. The sun slowly lifted and filled with light, first the clouds, then the mountain peaks, then the ranch meadow. It was so tranquil and beautiful, almost as if time moved at a slower pace. I stood and watched this grand awakening unfold right before my eyes. It was an opportunity to quietly observe a serene mountain view which changed before me.
Often when I see a Colorado mountain ranch I wonder what life on it must be like. I usually imagine it simpler in contrast to life in the big city. When I think of it that way, it seems attractive to me. However, according to Michael Crouser it is “really rough and tough“. I am sure that looking on the ranch from the outside does not give me a realistic perspective of life on it. At the same time I cannot help but be attracted to a simple lifestyle with lots of access to nature. In a way, I get moments of simplicity when experiencing nature through photography. It is a major reason why I am so passionate about it.
