Ypsilon Mountain | Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Ypsilon Mountain is part of the Mummy Range, located in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. It is 13,520 ft (4,121 m) tall and is the top 300 highest Colorado mountains, ranking at #246. Ypsilon Mountain can be seen from many parts of the park, but the closest views are offered from sections of Trail Ridge Road.
Rocky Mountain National Park can be quite windy and uninviting in the winter time. This image of Ypsilon Mountain captures two different aspects of Colorado weather. On one hand, the distant mountain appears to be in smoke from the raging winds, lifting the snow in the air. Down in the trees is perfectly calm and still. What a beautiful and awe-inspiring contrast!
On a clear day Ypsilon mountain can be seen from quite far in the Colorado Front Range plains. However, on this snowy morning I had the pleasure of photographing it in a more up close and personal fashion. Although it was mid April, the feeling in the mountains was still very wintery. Nevertheless, the scene was absolutely breathtaking. I was reminded of a beautiful natural world, which exists not far from the cities. It was a privilege to have been there and to have had it to myself even for a few moments.
