A huge rock wall in Zion National Park puts on a spectacular color show as the sunset splashes rich light all over the wall face. The warm sandstone glows like an amber as one can see every crevasse, edge, and rock shape. This panoramic view displays the mid section of The East Temple’s vertical wall. The image captures about 200 by 600 feet of this massive rock artwork.
This fine art panoramic print is the very first photograph I ever captured in Zion during the last moments of the sunset. I had only been in the park for less than an hour and was already mesmerized by its impressive beauty. Its landscape changed so fast as the colors of rocks and mountains smoothly transitioned into various forms.
I only had a small window of opportunity in Zion that evening, given that the sunset was approaching and it would soon be dark. My idea was to drive into the heart of the park and visually learn as quickly as I could. Then I could return the next morning and shoot at sunrise. Therefore, I was naturally in somewhat of a hurry. However, when I descended down the canyon by The East Temple I could not resist and had to stop and take a picture. Moments after I pressed the shutter, the light was gone and so were the vibrant colors of the rock wall.
