I captured the Sneffels Range on my very first fall colors trip to Southwestern Colorado. In my opinion, the San Juan Mountains offer some of the best opportunities for Colorado landscape photography. I had heard of Mount Sneffels, and looked at images of its fall colors before the trip. However, when I first laid eyes on it I realized that no pictures ca do justice to this spectacular mountain range.
On this particular evening the sky was clear, the fall colors were changing, and the Sneffels Range mountains were calm. In the peaceful valley below cows were gently strolling and grazing. I really wanted to capture this incredibly beautiful place and hiked around to find the perfect spot. My goal was to frame it well, so that both the size and the beauty of these mountains showed in the ultimate fine art print. Just in time I was able to land the frame and capture this impressive scenery. By then the sun had set and the ambient light gently revealed all details of the beautiful scenery.
My in-person introduction to this magnificent location took place in 2009. Many times since then I have been back to the Sneffels Range in pursuit of more fall colors majesty. Nevertheless, I have also been lucky to have the place to myself. The experience is hard to describe. Experiencing this beauty alone and capturing it with my camera is a privilege.
The Sneffels Range is a group of majestic, alpine peaks and is named so after the gorgeous fourteener Mount Sneffels. It is part of the San Juans, which are located in Southwestern Colorado. The range stretches West of Red Mountain Pass and north of Ophir Pass. Some of the nearby towns are Ridgway, Ouray, and Telluride.
