A textured sand dune and desert with mountains in the background

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
The Great Sand Dunes in Colorado are a sight to see! When I think of sand dunes and desert my mind goes to many other places, but naturally not to Colorado. Why? Because I associate them with flat lands, not with mountains. For this reason I find this park absolutely unique and spectacular.

I visited the sand dunes the day before taking this picture and had an opportunity to explore this Colorado landmark. While the experience was quite fun and interesting, the winds kicked the sands in the air and it was not ideal time for photography. Therefore, I decided to come back the next morning.

My alarm was set for 4am. This was necessary as I had a short drive to the Colorado Sand Dunes National Park, and also wanted to hike up on top of them. It was a quiet and peaceful morning with no one else around. As I crested the first few big dunes the view opened up. I could fully see the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Great Colorado Sand Dunes lay in front of me for miles. To top it off I stumbled upon a surface that was like no other I had seen up to that point. Apparently the wind had been at work all night, creating magical shapes and textures. It was so spectacular, I could not believe my eyes.

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado is actually home to the tallest sand dunes in all of North America. Some of them reach 750 feet high and create a dramatic sea of sand, at the foot of the mountains. U.S. Army Lt. Zebulon Pike is the first known person to write about the Great Sand Dunes, as he and his men crossed the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is believed that the dunes formed over time as the winds created by the San Luis valley swept loose sands. The mountains, forming a natural barrier, allowed the sand to accumulate and form what we see today.

FINE ART PRINTS FOR SALE

Print Mediums

Acrylic - TruLife® LumaChrome Prints - ready to hang

This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLife® acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.

Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLife® acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.

Metal - ChromaLuxe Prints - ready to hang

Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.

Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
