PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSONAL NOTE
When I captured this photograph it was my very first time at Trillium Lake. I had seen many images of it before my visit, but was not prepared for what I really experienced there.
It was a typical “wake up very early in the morning and drive in the dark for 2 hours to get to the location” type of experience. Although I do a lot of research and preparation before visiting a new place, I am always a bit nervous when going somewhere for the first time and I only have a limited window to be in the right place at the right time. One GPS mistake, or taking the wrong turn, can result in a missed opportunity.
My family and I were only passing through the area therefore, I had only one shot to capture an Oregon mountain sunrise. Whenever that is the case, which is most of the time :-), I get a little nervous. However, I have learned to trust God and let Him guide me in those moments. The trip to Trillium went pretty well and I got to my location on time.
As I got out of the car I experienced 2 hours of absolute nature photography bliss. It was quiet, warm, calm, pleasant, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful. The light started moving and the entire landscape changed with every minute.
Spending time in such beautiful places, capturing amazing moments, being alone with God, gives me enjoyment beyond measure. This was one of those beautiful experiences, where I had a hard time leaving after spending 2 hours there. The place just had a magic pull on me and I wanted to just stay and savor the moment.
