Wilderness Fall Colors | Colorado
What you see in this photograph is a Colorado wilderness bursting with fall colors at its finest. Wilderness areas typically are natural regions which are less traveled and explored. This particular one was no exception. Behind me there is a valley below with amazing aspen woodlands. There is also a well traveled dirt road, through which many nature photographers travel. Most of them don’t go far from the road. For over a decade I was one of those photographers. Yet on this particular annual photo trip I decided to change my approach. I decided to go up a trail which seemed less traveled.
Looking at a map, I knew that the trail went straight up, crested a mountain ridge above treeline, and then dropped on the other side. I did not know how far I wanted to go, nor did I know what to expect. After about three hours of hiking I reached the ridge and saw what unfolded on the other side. My amazement and emotion were so strong that I vocally expressed them multiple times. It was a brand new world of miles and miles of pure and untouched mountain wilderness. Not only that, but it was adorned by miles and miles of gold and yellow aspen trees way far into the distance. I have done my best to represent that amazingly special landscape and view through this image. However, I know it will not do justice to what I experienced that day, standing on the mountain ridge and admiring this captivating landscape.
