Mountain Sunset | Cimarron Range, Colorado
Shooting this mountain sunset, near Ridgway, Colorado was one of the most stressful experiences in my photography career up to that point. Sometimes I plan a shooting session down to the last details. Other times I am on the other end of the spectrum – I just go and capture whatever opportunity presents itself. Yet other times my approach is somewhere in between.
On this particular Colorado Fall evening I came prepared to capture the sunset. I had scouted the area earlier and settled on where and what I would capture. However, the sunset light and clouds did not do what I expected, as it happens often in Colorado mountains. At the last moment I decided to change positions hoping to catch a better view. My experience however has taught me that changing the plan at the last moment is risky business. The reason is that peak colors during a sunset or a sunrise are very short lived. Changing position and resetting the camera, once the sunset peak is in motion, usually ends in disaster.
Regardless, I took a chance and proceeded to shift positions by driving down the valley. Just then I noticed a crazy intense red light east of me, but the drive to that spot was further. This was an all or nothing moment and I decided to go for it. Driving rather fast, I scrambled to get to the right spot and reposition my camera. Unfortunately the light faded and completely disappeared before my eyes, as I was still struggling with the camera setup. Quite sad, I began my return to the original location, in hope of still getting a picture. I had not gone very far, before noticing the intense red light reappear, in my rear view mirror. Frantically I turned the car around hoping to get the shot after all. This time the light lasted long enough for me to capture this intensely beautiful Colorado mountain sunset. I had been given Hope!
The mountains in this image are the Cimarron Range of Colorado. Another Cimarron Range exists, but it is part of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, New Mexico. Colorado locally known as the Cimarrons, the range stretches North and South and is adjacent to the Sneffels Range. Two of the most famous mountains of the Cimarrons are Courthouse Mountain (or The Courthouse) and Chimney Rock.
This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLifeยฎ acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.
Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLifeยฎ acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.
Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.
Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
Large format print sizes with great quality are available for your interior. As a landscape nature photographer, I pride myself on being able to produce huge prints with sharpness and detail. Although printsย ย are available in custom sizes, my typical dimensions are: PANORAMIC – 20ร60, 30×90, 40ร120 and STANDARD – 30ร45, 40×60, 48ร72.
