Have you ever taken the time to just slow down, relax, and be present in the moment? This is exactly what I did on an autumn morning. I had the pleasure of taking a relaxed, gentle walk through and aspen forest, just outside Snowmass, Colorado. Yes, the ultimate goal was to capture some beauty. However, it was a lot more than that. It was enjoyment and delight from just being out in nature with my camera and not being pressed for time.
As an artist my outdoor outings are sometimes intense, in pursuit of rapidly changing light. Nevertheless, this was a relaxing experience. I ventured onto a less beaten path near Snowmass and took my time to slowly check out the forest and enjoy the evergreen and aspen trees.
No one else was around and everything was really tranquil. Solitude in the forest is soothing to me, especially when aspens are present, and this is what my image is conveying in this landscape picture. It is that feeling of calm and curiosity to see what is around the next bend. It gives me a sense of walking through a live fine art nature photography gallery.
Notice the bar claw marks on the thick aspen, left of the trail. Black bears do inhabit the forests around Snowmass and Aspen, and even venture into town. Although I have not come across one in the woods yet, I did see a bear asleep high in a cottonwood tree in downtown Aspen.
