Mt Sneffels Sunset | Ridgway, Colorado
Much of the foreground you see in this Sneffels sunset picture, is actually private land . It is a splendid terrain of pretty foothills, backed by gorgeous mountains. Thankfully, there is public access through the terrain, which takes you to Mount Sneffels Wilderness. This access allows outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and landscape photographers to come and share in the magic of this wonderland. I have also written about this landscape in another of my images – Double RL.
On that particular Fall colored afternoon I had returned to this beloved region, after years had gone by since my last visit. I was curious what I would find and was not sure what to expect. My original plan was to photograph a different part of the scenery from what is captured in this image. However, I was drawn to a sunset combination of brightly colored aspen trees, surrounded by orange colored oak, backed by a side view of Mount Sneffels in the distance. To top it off, the sun (at that moment below the horizon) illuminated the high clouds and showered them with orange and purple tones. The blend of these components was amazing!
One intricacy of fine art nature photography is being at the right place, at the right time, camera in-hand, and ready to shoot. Sometimes you think you know what the light will do but the end results still surprise you. On this day there were terrific clouds with strong red sunset colors, directly north of me. The problem was that there was nothing interesting in the foreground. Being a self-critical artist, I am always looking for beautiful shapes and formations in nature, combined with beautiful light. When one of those is missing I rarely press the shutter. Even when I do, I almost never add the artwork to my portfolio.
Therefore, on this evening I chose to look east. That was my best option to find natural beauty in both the shapes and the light in my viewfinder. The final result is what you see above. A passing afternoon storm creates a vivid combination of rain, clouds, sunshine, and color. Mount Sneffels proudly towers in the sunset background, captured at an angle that is uncommon.
This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLifeยฎ acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.
Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLifeยฎ acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.
Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.
Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
Large format print sizes with great quality are available for your interior. As a landscape nature photographer, I pride myself on being able to produce huge prints with sharpness and detail. Although printsย ย are available in custom sizes, my typical dimensions are: PANORAMIC – 20ร60, 30×90, 40ร120 and STANDARD – 30ร45, 40×60, 48ร72. You can learn the difference between panoramic and standard prints on my print sizes page. There you will also find visualization tools to help you see how different size large format prints fit inside a home decor.
