Bright Aspen Trees | Colorado
Tall, slender, bright aspen tree trunks fill the vertical space of this forest view. Magnificent golden leaves dominate the landscape and pepper this magical fall color scene. The trees create a seemingly impenetrable wall, as they guard the forest entrance. The words “guard” and “wall” are usually not associated with beauty. Yet, one cannot but blend both of these opposing concepts while staring into the face of this autumn fine art.
The bright aspen trees are so vivid in this image that they seem to be glowing from within. This is a very interesting phenomenon I regularly observe in nature as a fine art landscape photographer. When aspen leaves are lit by the sun, they glow with tremendous intensity. However, on overcast days, or when in the shadow, they still glow from the ambient light around. When that happens the glow is not as intense as compared to when directly illuminated by the sun. Nevertheless, the sight is still spectacular as the light is less harsh and more gentle.
What enhances the bright colors of the aspen trees here is also the darker shades of the forest, as there is no sky in this image. This effect is accomplished when photographing the trees at an angle, and especially when they are positioned on a slope. It is hard to detect whether the camera was pointed up or down towards the trees in the image. Or, if the lens was horizontally level when I pressed the shutter. But to not keep you guessing, I will mention that the camera was pointed up.
