In order to capture this view I started driving around 4am. It was all going well until I took a wrong turn on the highway and lost precious time trying to figure out what was wrong with my GPS. My heart was racing. Was I going to arrive too late and miss a great photographic opportunity? These thoughts were swirling through my mind, as I got back on the road and hoped and prayed that I was moving in the right direction. This was my very first time going to the Florida Keys, and I was doing it in darkness with not much margin of error, because time was running out quickly. The sun was scheduled to rise at an appointed time and if I wasn’t there, it would happen anyway.
I kept driving but found myself worried and losing hope. Then I decided that I would trust God and leave the situation in His hands. At that moment peace started flowing through my body and my mind became at ease. To make a long story short – I pulled into the parking lot, near the wooden pier (which I had scouted through satellite images) literally moments before the sunrise. The clouds were blood-red, which was a great indication. I knew that my opportunity was not lost and hurried like a mad man to set up my camera and get in position. And then it all unfolded right before my eyes – an intense sunrise with a majestic ocean view affirming God’s presence, glory, and favor on me that day.
