PERSONAL NOTE
At the time of this writing I have traveled the 6 miles to Maroon Lake twice on cross-country skis. Both trips have been different and special. This second time there was a strong moon and I rarely used my headlight. The snow around me reflected the moon’s glow and the experience was rather special.
When going up Maroon Road, one cannot see the Bells until the last part of the. About a mile before reaching the end the view of the Maroon Bells opens up. It is always a special moment. I had been skiing uphill for about 1.5 hours in anticipation. Finally the two giants emerged in the dark. Their presence is always intimidating and attractive at the same time.
Although I was racing to reach my final destination in time for the sunrise, I stopped to capture this image. Never before had I captured these peaks in soft light like this and I am glad I did stop.
Processing the image was rather challenging. I almost gave up after several unsuccessful attempts. However, after waiting a few days and trying again, I was able to process the image in a way that I found satisfying. Enjoy the view, it was a cold morning!
