Aspen trees abound near Aspen, Colorado where every Fall tourists and landscape photographers come to savor and capture the foliage colors. Every valley in the area flourishes with aspen trees and when their colors change it truly becomes a magical place. I go to the mountains year after year to witness the stunning transformation of Colorado aspen fall colors. So far I have not become tired of the experience and am rather grateful what I consider a privilege.
On one of those evenings I stumbled upon the scene you see in the image here. It was truly an amazing site. The aspen leaves were at peak Fall colors, reminding me of the farming season in Colorado. Why? Because every year farmers work hard to produce a crop and at the end of the season they are rewarded with a harvest. It is the time when the crops are ripe and it is time to gather them.
Similarly the fall colors of the aspen trees were really “ripe”, as it happens for a short period every season in Colorado. When I am out in nature I am very aware of my surroundings. My sense of smell is quite strong and I have learned to recognize the scent of Fall. The foliage of the Fall season has a distinctive aroma to it and it reminds me of crops that are ready for harvest.
Therefore, it was time to “harvest” the beautiful aspen trees and their crops. Fine art nature photography allows me to harvest this majestic phenomenon with my camera, and I consider it a blessing. It is such joy to be out there, to experience breathtaking views, and then to make large format prints out of the experience.
