PERSONAL NOTE
What I witnessed on the evening of taking this photograph is something that I had not seen before. While the Colorado mountains can get all kinds of storms throughout the year, these types of clouds (at least in my experience) are not common to the high country. They are more a sight that one would see down in the plains.
Upon examination there are 3 very uncommon elements in this image that make it so rare and beautiful:
1. These types of storm clouds are usually not native to the mountains
2. Regardless of location, they are not common during the fall season
3. I have never seen them over a vast scene of rich fall colors
What a blessing this was for me to see it with my own eyes and capture it with my camera. The best part – a storm never happened and the clouds changed form as quickly as they had originally appeared.
