Meteora | Kalabaka, Greece
Meteora, Greece is home to the most precipitously built Eastern Orthodox monasteries in the country. It is a beautiful landscape of old rock formations, which captivate immediately. It possesses a striking mix of natural splendor and a sense of a long time ago. One cannot help but feel as if he/she is inside a giant, ancient fortress. The massive rock pillars rise so high that their sheer size and vertical walls command respect and mesmerize.

Meteora is located in central Greece near the town of Kalabaka. It is positioned next to the Plain of Thessaly, the Pineios river and across the Pindus Mountains. Being part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, Meteora is regularly visited by visitors.

In 1344, Athanasios Koinovitis from Mount Athos, Greece came to Meteora with a group of followers. They were drawn to a group of hermit-monks who had already been dwelling in the high cliffs of the area. Inspired by the monks’ ability to free-climb and live in solitude atop giant rocks, Koinovitis and his group remained. They proceeded to establish the Great Meteoron Monastery between 1356 and 1372.

In Greece the word “Meteora” means “middle of the sky”, “suspended in the air”, or “in the heavens above”. Perched on top of dangerous rock pillars these monasteries defy an explanation of how people managed to construct in such a treacherous location. Their outer walls often come right to the edge of high cliff walls, which sometimes exceed a height of 1000 feet. Although the exact year is unknown, a basic monastic state was established sometime around the 11th and 12th centuries. While at some point there were a total of 24 monasteries, today only 6 monasteries remain in Meteora, Greece. Three of those are seen in this image: St. Nicholas Anapausas, Rousanou, and Great Meteoron.

FINE ART PRINTS FOR SALE

Print Mediums

Acrylic - TruLife® LumaChrome Prints - ready to hang

This is the absolute highest luxury, museum quality product in fine art printmaking on the market today. Acrylic prints boast a tremendous range of vivid and bright colors, incredible sharpness and clarity, and an anti-reflective acrylic surface. Put together, these qualities result in an almost 3D looking showpiece, which immediately captivates and impresses the viewer. TruLife® acrylic prints are a fully finished wall art product, ready to be hung on your wall.

Lumachrome acrylic fine art prints reflect light with amazing luminescence due to the Iridium metal particles used in the print inks. Because of this, these museum quality prints appear as if they are lit from behind. In addition, the colors are amazingly vibrant and well saturated, while the dark areas maintain great detail. Furthermore, I use the anti-reflection, scratch resistant, and UV protective TruLife® acrylic as a standard on my limited edition prints.

Metal - ChromaLuxe Prints - ready to hang

Metal prints are a paperless fine art photographic product. The inks are directly infused and sealed onto an aluminum sheet, in order to produce this gallery quality, luxury artwork. ChromaLuxe metal prints result in a stunning, high-gloss fine art image, with bright and saturated colors. Metal prints have incredible image quality, archival properties, and physical durability.

Research has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints will outlast, by three times, silver-halide photographic paper prints. Besides, metal prints are a remarkable high definition product, delivering high quality at a slightly lower price, compared to acrylic prints.
